Intuit, the makers of QuickBooks, has identified an issue that is affecting those users who, after updating to QuickBooks 2006, Release 5, attempt to open a data file while two or more users are logged in.

In this multi-user situation, QuickBooks will terminate and not complete the update of the file. The next time the data file is opened, the user will receive a message stating, "This data file cannot be used because it is not completely updated. Please restore your backup."

It is important to note that while this situation prevents the user from accessing QuickBooks, it causes no damage to the user's financial data.

Intuit has stopped making Release 5 available via automatic update while they work to fix this problem. In the meantime:

• If you have experienced this issue, go to KB ID # 72780abd for information on how to restore access to QuickBooks.
• If you have multiple copies of QuickBooks and one has been successfully updated to R5 but other copies are not yet updated, go to the QuickBooks 2006 R5 Manual Download page for information on how to update your other copies.
