Since SQL might be (for some of us) a bit expensive I ask if MSDE (which is delivered "free" with other MS applications) is enough to run a "1 Server - multiple clients" configuration. The clients should be able to modify the status of the cases in the database hosted on the "so called server" from Windows XP based workstations. Can the "so called server" be a Windows XP based computer too or we need a Server operating system (Windows Small Business Server, Windows 2003 Server)?

I hope you understand my questions since I'm not sure I used the correct word order in English.

Thank you.

Hi

You can use the free SQL server from Microsoft, and you do not need to have a designated "server" type operating system.

SQL Express 2005 is free from Microsoft. Please refer to the AyaNova Download web page http://www.ayanova.com/download.htm under Related Downloads which has a link where you can download this free SQL server from Microsoft.

Than refer to the AyaNova v3 Manual section on setting up AyaNova for network access using SQL Express 2005 starting page 553. The AyaNova v3 Manual is also downloadable from http://www.ayanova.com/download.htm

The "server" where you will install SQL Server 2005 and have the AyaNova database does not have to be a "server" operating system. The "server" can be Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003, and does not have to be a "server" type operating system.

Let me know if you have additional questions.
