Workaround Needed

Does anyone know of an EASY workaround they would be willing to share when it come to creating ‘categorized’ Unit lists.

We have found not having the Unit Model Category available for equipment lists tends to confuse many of our clients when we print these lists for them. They do see the Unit Models, e.g. “AL1715B, Proliant ML370 G4, LaserJet 1320n, etc.,” but this type of listing requires them to know what type of equipment each model is. This is especially confusing to corporate managers, who most times do not have the equipment located near them,

When looking at equipment lists our clients expect to see how many computers, printers, servers, etc. they have. Having the model is helpful too but not by itself.

We have been working around this issue by exporting the available Unit data from the Units grid to Excel or Word, then adding the Unit Model Categories, but the additional amount of time it takes to do this is placing an undue burden on our staff.

We could prefix every model with the category but doing this may just add to confusion on our endsince a category field exists.

I have this ‘wish’ (add the Unit Model Category to the Units’ grid) pending now for over a month and two maintenance-release updates ago but nothing has materialized thus far.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob, when we made some changes in an earlier maintenance release to the grid sorting and filtering code it made it easier for us to be able to make changes to the columns that appear on the grid and in reports.

We went over the wish list and identified that item as being one that should be moved into the maintenance release development stream and did so already.

Ihave posteda tested interim copy of the next maintenance release which has that column defined in the Unit’s list. If you are running the latest release of AyaNova you can use this file by replacing your GZTW.AyaNova.BLL.dll file with the copy in the zip file I’ve posted. Note that because this is a pre-release the version number has not changed only it’s date of 15-Sept.

There are other changes in it, but they are all internal and will be documented when the release is published at which time you should upgrade to that release if you have been using this one. Please keep a copy of the existing GZTW.AyaNova.BLL.dll file that you are replacing with this one just to be on the safe side. There are no changes which can impact data negatively, however it’s possible something was missed in testing, I’ve just doubled checked it and it seems fine, but just in case you have some difficulty with it keep a copy you can revert to.

Here is the download:

XXXXXXX

<EDIT> Column is now available in v3.2.6 - apply latest version.

What a greatlooking report.

There are going to be a lot of happy campers tomorrow.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Here is the the Equipment List template we made using the file John uploaded. It isn’t fancy but it serves our needs just fine.

Feel free to download itand if you wish…pretty-it-up.

Thanks Again,

Bob
