Hi Doug
Backup:
The AyaNova 3 Manual is available for download from the AyaNova web site’s Help web page http://www.ayanova.com/onlinehelp.htm - scroll down to the bottom where it says Older AyaNova 3.6 Documentation
If your present configuration is stand-alone default, then this would be in the Backup & Restore section of the AyaNova 3 Manual by the Table of Contents starts on page 585
Report Templates:
This is why you have a backup. So that in the event of the upgrade does not allow upgrade of any of your old report templates, you can still recover them.
I would suggest that when you perform step #1 of http://www.ayanova.com/AyaNova6webHelp/upgrading_if_stand_alone_ayano.htmthat you identify by name and location (i.e. which grid and navigation pane) your custom report templates that you use, and I would be happy to check them for you to confirm whether they do or do not upgrade correctly.
Upgrading:
If your present configuration is stand-alone, then you would be following the upgrade steps of http://www.ayanova.com/AyaNova6webHelp/upgrading_if_stand_alone_ayano.htm
Hope to hear from you soon.

Error while trying to open file
Hi again Doug, as per our private email correspondence, also wanted to post here. This message is because you have something else already accessing the database file.
I rebooted it didnt work, so i uninstalled aya 6 and re installed it, so no luck with it opening
Actually, as per the direct email correspondence we are having, you are getting the error:
AyaNova was unable to start
Depending on how early in startup the problem occurred,
a detailed log of the problem with suggestions may have
been saved to the file AyaLog.txt
located at: file:\C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\AyaNova
Error details:
Unhandled Exception:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException
Inner exception:
*** FATAL ERROR SCHEMA UPDATE FAILED ***
CONTACT TECHNICAL SUPPORT IMMEDIATELY
unsuccessful metadata update
key size exceeds implementation restriction for index “IDX6_AVENDOR_CVR”
This is a different error than that listed previously.
This error is becauseyou did not replace the database file as that is the error you would get if you tried to directly update your AyaNova version 3 database, instead of replacing it with thereplacement I sent you as per step #1 of http://www.ayanova.com/AyaNova6webHelp/upgrading_if_stand_alone_ayano.htm
Replace the database file with that I sent you.
If you continue to experience an issue provide the following as well as any other details - make sure to confirm each step in your reply and provide details:
-
For yoru own convienence, and to ensure no further issues - Stop and do not do anything other then what I write
-
What operating system are you using? Windows XP Pro, Windows 2008, Vista, etc?
-
Make sure you do not have AyaNova running and that you have closed all error messages
-
Open Windows Explorer and confirm - is there an AYANOVA.FDB database file in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AyaNovaData\ folder?
-
If so, now delete it.
-
Now extract to this folder the AYANOVA.FDB that is in the zipped file I sent you.
-
You should now have a database file AYANOVA.FDB in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AyaNovaData\ folder that is sized 46,688KB before you run the AyaNova program.
-
Now you run the AyaNova program as per step 6 of http://www.ayanova.com/AyaNova6webHelp/upgrading_if_stand_alone_ayano.htm and so on.
-
Attach a copy of the ayalog.txt file from your AyaNova program folder C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\AyaNovato your reply if you continue to have any additional issues, as well as specific confirmation and details to each of those listed above.
Let me know
Just wanted to post here for any others that experience this - the issue was because the database file had not been replaced as per step #1 of the upgrade instructions. Once done, no issue.
Thanks for all your help Joyce.
