One Button Backup?

Do note most such buttons in software do not actually backup your software’s database, but would make a copy of a database, and than still require that copy to be backed up to a device.

Including backup software (that actually recognizes your backup device and backs up to such a device) for the three different possible AyaNova configurations would greatly increase the license cost of AyaNova, especially as there are so many differnt types of backup devices.

There is no button within the program to make a copy of the AyaNova database because there could be three possible configurations (embedded Firebird, networked Firebird or SQL) each requiring a different method of making a copy of the database to your backup device.

Embedded Firebird (the default installation on one computer for use by one user) does require that the user not be in the AyaNova program when the AyaNova database file AYANOVA.FDB is backed up to your device. A button within the AyaNova program to make a copy of this database would therefore require the user to be logged into AyaNova, which is directed not to be when making a copy of the database file.

The networked Firebird configuration includes a batch file in the installation folder for the user to edit that creates a snapshot file of the AyaNova database file AYANOVA.FDB, and this snapshot fileis what is backed up. The snapshot batch file would need to be edited depending on the location of your AyaNova database file which you determine where to set up. With the network Firebird configuration, users andother optional programs ( Event Generator, AyaNova DataPortal, RI, WBI, MBI, etc) can continue to access the AyaNova database without the need to be closed out.

When using SQL Server (Express or licensed SQL), a SQL Server compliant backup software is required to backup the SQL AyaNova database. Including SQL compliant backup software would increase the license cost of AyaNova, andwoudlnot be useful forthose that do not use SQL Server. We have listed some suggestions in the AyaNova help docs, and also encourage searching on the Internet for SQL compliant backup software. Most SQL backup software also allows AyaNova users to remain logged in and using AyaNova when a backup occurs.

Do let us know if you have additonal questions on how to backup the AyaNova database.
