Using the Label Wizard when your brand and model is not listed

Wanted to post here for the benefit of all.

An AyaNova user has a Brother QL 500 withlabels on roll that are 29mm x 90mm and they want to make custom labels templates for this for use with AyaNova.

As you see, the Label Wizard does not provide pre-selections for the Brother brand.

So if you have a similar situation where the label you use is not listed in the Label Wizard, it is suggested to do the following:

1. Determine a label that is offered for selection in the wizardthat is similar in size and type as the label you want to use.

For example, I did a search online for Avery rolls and single label types to find a number that was also listed in the Label Wizard. For example, AVERY 2162 is 1 1/3 by 4 inches is a single label type.

2. In a new summary type report template, in the Label Wizard, select the brand and type that most closely matches your label and then edit its dimensions to your label.

For example, below shows selection of the Avery standard product 2162 where we see that 1 1/3 inch equals to 133 and 4 inches equals to 400

3. So now weedit of the Label Width, Height, pitch etc knowning that 29 mm is about 1 1/4 inch would equal about 125; and 90mm is about 3.5 inches which would be about 350

4. You can also edit dimensions from within the report designer too in the Page Settings section - see Margins, Page Height, etc

5.Now this may not work first time when you print off to your label machine. You may have to play with the dimensions more etc. But this gives you where to start with if the brand you have is not specifically listed.

6. Also note that you can change the angle that fields print out at such as if right now the label is designed to print left to right, but your pritner itself needs the fields to print from bottom to top, do note that you can change the Angle of the field.

For example, the screenshot below I have selected the field and then edited its Angle property to 90 degrees and you can see that instead of the field being left to right, it is now bottom to top.

7. The orientation of the sample label you selected may not be right. For example, it may be side to side, where as you need it vertical. So just edit the dimensions. For example, the screenshot below is about editing the panel for the label.

Just try different things and test print out till you get it how you want.

Any suggestions for other AyaNova users do post here in reply - would be much appreciated.
